Interesting case. Good to know the police were on top of it.

I find it confusing describing them as metal-detectorists when the article
seems to say they bought them from someone who found a much larger hoard.

Unfortunately this is yet another web site that doesn’t offer a ‘reject’
button or link for cookies.

You can change your options, apparently, once you’ve accepted them, by
which time it’s too late.

Ergo, I choose not to read the article.

“You can withdraw your consent at any time by visiting Privacy Settings in
the footer”…but the footer isn’t visible on two browsers on a device with
up-to-date software.

Isn’t it about time that ‘reject cookies’ option was mandated on the
landing page?

It's under 'privacy settings' under 'Legal' - 2 options: 'accept' or
'reject and pay'.

And what's to suggest that would be honoured anyway?

For my own part, I just allow cookies and have them all set to delete on
exit. Seems a reasonable compromise to me; ymmv.
